Does the eMotimo ST4 connect to A1’s Alpha Wheels?

In short, no.  We attempted the integration after customer requests and were only moderately successful and it didn’t roll out.

Why? 

• The frequency of updates was too slow and irregular which resulted in motion that was less smooth and responsive than we wanted for the ST4.
• There was no ability to control speeds/direction from the A1 Wheels. This meant that all speed and direction changes would have to have been handled by eMotimo’s interface and screen . .often not in a place visible and far away from the wheels.
• No ability to control more than pan and tilt. No clean ability to control sliding, pan/tilt tracking shots without mixed interfaces.
• Firmware not actively updated or maintained.

So while it is possible to interface with Alpha Wheels in basics ways, the results weren’t great and the amount of missing functionality compared to the inertia wheels was large.  Check out our integration page for IW to see more.
