Dana Dolly V3 Beltless integration - Is my Dana Dolly compatible?

Summary

The Beltless Dana Dolly integration kit (DDV3)  is a great evolution in motorizing your Dana Dolly easily.  It works well with lots of Dana Dollies . . .but not all!  Please review this article to see if your Dana Dolly and track is compatible with our DDV3 Beltless motor and sensor kit.

 

What works:

Round Track, with Universal Ends with Nominal Pipe diameter close to 1.66”.  This is the standard of pipe that Dana Dolly recommends and is 1 ¼” Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 (thicker wall) aluminum pipe.  
Your wheels need be offset so that one wheel hits the end before the other. (top down view shown below)

What is known not to work in order of likelihood

1. Original Track Ends  - DO NOT USE ** -- Wait wait wait - you aren't compatible with them?  Well it works both on stands and on boxes/floor.  This configuration is dangerous on stands as with the right speed and momentum you can just drive your dolly over the ends.  There are no mechanical stop. This is no different than a mechanical operator doing the same by accident, but the risk is high without a safety.  ** Add a mechanical stop or safety that prevents accidents if you want to use this configuration.
2. Non-standard diameter track/pipe. Standard 1.25-inch (1-1/4") nominal pipe size (NPS) has an actual outside diameter (OD) of 1.66 inches for both Schedule 40 and 80.  Larger outer diameters pipes of 1.5 inch nominal as well as standard size aluminum pipe commonly available in Europe (48 and 50mm OD ) cause the dolly to rides too high for the motor wheel to make good contact. 3. Triangle Track (ride height issue and friction issue) - no workaround
4. Dana Dolly knock offs. Buy official Dana Dolly! No support or troubleshooting is possible with third party Dollies as we don't design or test with them.  
5. High Hat Dana Dolly version
6. Very old Dana Dolly carriages that have non-offset wheel sets (shown below). The sensor boards and motors will impact these non-offset wheels.
