How Many Axis of Control?
Remote Mapping Overview:
Pan: Right Joystick (left to right):
Tilt: Right Joystick (up and down):
Then we have 2 "M-Ports". These are called M3 and M4.
M3 is controlled using the left joystick going left to right- Typically this is connected to your Dolly or Slider M3: Left Joystick (left to right):
M4: L2 Trigger and R2 Trigger:
These M-Ports can control any combination (pick 2) of the following:
- eMotimo Turntable
- eMotimo FZ Motor
- eMotimo's Shark Slider Motor Direct Drive
- eMotimo's Shark Slider Motor 14:1 geared
- eMotimo's Dana Dolly Motor
- eMotimo's Kessler Motor Pod
- eMotimo's MYT Skater Motor
- eMotimo's MYT Slider Motor
Any eMotimo External Motor implementing custom functions
As of now, we have covered the 4 channels that the ST4 and the ST4.3 have. Now on to the new channels
Examples:
You can plug in one single Tilta Nucleus Motor and use it to control focus or zoom. As stated above, if you're using it as a focus motor, it will need to be assigned the Motor 1. If you're using it as a zoom motor, it will need to be assigned the Motor 3 position (even if it's the ONLY motor plugged in).
If you have two Tilta Nucleus Motors, you can use them to control focus AND zoom (Motor 1 & Motor 3).
To control these motors we will still be using the same PS4 controller.
Tilta Motor 1 will be controlled using the PS4 remote's touchpad by first touching the touchpad in the middle, then slowly moving your finger from one end of the touchpad to the other end of the touchpad. For fine adjustments, we recommend rolling your finger in the center of the pad. This is your focus motor.
Tilta Motor 1 (FOCUS): Touchpad:
Tilta Motor 3 will be controlled using the left joystick (also used to control your M3 port) but this time we will use the UP and DOWN direction. This is your zoom motor. **Note we have put in extra deadband for the M3 motor so you can zoom without moving your Slider position.

6 axis? Where is the 7th Axis?
Yes, we did promise 7 total axes of control. For the select few shooters out there who have the burning desire to incorporate IRIS control, we've taken care of it. While we COULD have jammed the IRIS control into the PS4 controller, there isn't a natural analog control for this so we left it out to help with usability. If there are enough requests around this, we would add it in. We decided to give you the ultimate 7th axis control using Dragronframe. We have an article dedicated to Using Your ST4.3 With Dragonframe coming soon. There, you will find all the current information surrounding the Spectrum ST4.3 and Dragonframe.
Now for that second question.
We thought some of you just might ask to utilize a dedicated focus puller. So we've enabled the use of the Tilta Hand Controller.
Can I use the Tilta Hand Controller?
You bet and this is where it gets really fun and way different than other motion control. This controller will allow a second person to control the focus and the zoom axes completely independently from the individual who is setting up the Pan, Tilt, M3, and M4 motion.
One thing worth noting before you implement the Tilta Hand Controller is the FUNC (function) button on the side of the unit. It will toggle between "SLAVE" and "MASTER" mode when you double click it. Once you've set your focus/zoom in Master Mode it regularly transmits data wirelessly to the motors. If you are transmitting data to the motors while eMotimo is trying to playback a move, the motors get confused and explode. Well, really it just ruins a shot, but we want to drive the point home here so we said explode. When you are done controlling a move live, you need to toggle Slave Mode during playback.
