Overview
In this article, we will be discussing how to configure your Network adapter using the ST4’s user interface in the settings menu. From the Settings menu on the ST4 you can configure your ST4 to be assigned an IP address from a router (DHCP), or set to a Static IP for use where auto address assignment is not possible (hubs).
Note: This configuration is very similar to the process of configuring for Unisketch with the main difference being that the I/O Port setting is different (BluePill uses the "API/Netadapt" setting)
Important Things to Know about configuration
- Make sure your Skaarhoj Panel is disconnected from the network or powered off while configuring your Network Adapter
- Your Skaarhoj controller needs to be on the same subnet as your Network adapter.
- This will work:
- PTZ extreme on 192.168.005.100 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- Network adapter for ST4 1 on 192.168.005.105 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- Optional Network adapter for ST4 2 on 192.168.005.106 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- This will NOT work:
- PTZ extreme on 192.168.005.100 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- Network adapter for ST4_1 on 192.168.006.105 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0
- Optional Network adapter for ST4_2 on 192.168.006.106 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Config of the Network Adapter to DHCP from eMotimo ST4
- Before plugging any accessories into the ST4 power on your ST4 and double check the firmware version is at least RC008_022. If you are currently on an earlier firmware version check out our help article for firmware updates.
- This firmware version can be found on the splash screen on power on or on the very last page of the settings menu
- Once confirming your firmware is upgraded appropriately, go to the settings menu and on the 5th page set the I/O Port setting to "API/NetAdapt" make sure to deselect (unhighlight) to save this to the ST4's memory.
- Once the I/O Port setting has been selected unplug the ST4.
- Leave the Network Adapter unpowered and plug the Network Adapter into the I/O Port of the ST4
- Leave the Network Cable unplugged! Plug in the power to the Network Adapter
- Now power on the ST4 and in the settings menu select ‘Net. Adapt Config’ on the 5th page of the settings menu
- If the network adapter is connected properly you should see an image like the left where all the fields light up. If the Network Adapter is not connected the fields will remain a lighter greyed out color like the picture on the right (Color hard to see in photos but can see in right that the Mask and Gateway were not received from the Network Adapter)
- Set the IP Type to DHCP
- Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select ‘Auto-Configure’
- For 5 seconds it will say configuring
- Wait for the Network Adapter to finish configuring the screen will say ‘Configured’
- Plug in your Network Cable to the Network Adapter
- Power Cycle the ST4 and Network Adapter
- Return to the 5th page of the Spectrum settings menu. If there is a device trying to talk to your network adapter (ie. Skaarhoj Panel, API, etc.) the Net. Adapt Config will be greyed out and an error message saying a device is connected . Power down or disconnect such devices from your network and power cycle the ST4 and Network Adapter and retry this step
- Select ‘Net. Adapt Config’.
- If the IP Address, Mask and Gateway are returned as all 0’s you are not getting an IP Address from your router or DHCP Server. Check that all cables are plugged in fully and restart the ST4 and Network Adapter and try again
- If successful and you can see the IP Address, you are connected to your network with an auto-assigned IP Address. Make note of the IP Address, Mask and Gateway Your numbers will vary based on your router settings. This IP address of this ST4 is what you will enter to Skaarhoj Reactor when adding a Device in future steps.
Setting a Static IP Address for the ST4/NetAdapter
- We recommend changing the IP Type to static to ensure your router will not change the IP Address of the network adapter over time.
- Set the IP Type to ‘Static’
- Change your IP Address to a valid IP for your network. Warning: You can set something that won’t work with your network. Check with your network administrator if you have any questions.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the Network Configuration menu and select ‘Auto-Configure’ to push these changes to the network adapter
- Once the Configuration is finished power cycle the spectrum
Troubleshooting - Verify IP Address and Connection
- To verify the ST4 is properly connected to the network open a browser on a computer connected to your network
-
- Type the IP Address you selected for your network adapter into the address bar
- You should see the login screen for your network adapter
- The default login is Username: ‘admin’ Password: ‘admin’ or ‘eMoti’ (Dependent on firmware version)
- Otherwise the login is what you configured for username and password on the ‘Net. Adapt Config’ screen
- If you can login to your network adapter at this address you are fully configured and ready to connect a device to your ST4
-
- Once a device is connected (BluePill, API etc.) you should see its IP listed as one of the Remote IP’s in the list on the screen shown below.
- Additionally, you will be able to see inbound and outbound traffic if devices are communicating
